Non-profit organizations provide services to the most vulnerable sections of the society. During the COVID-19 pandemic, those organizations have been overwhelmed by increased demand for their services with no such increase in their funding sources. This project aims to study how these organizations are managing the pandemic, the lessons that have been learnt, and to evaluate how these learnings can be used to build resilience and renewal of the sector. The project will focus on a few chosen case organizations in Alberta, to understand how we can build resilience of the non-profit sector for continued and sustainable service delivery to the communities.
The project will have several stages:
1. Collecting secondary data about the non-profit sector in Canada and the challenges faced during the pandemic (80 hours)
2. Collecting information about the chosen organizations in Alberta, and the specific challenges faced by those organizations during the pandemic (80 hours)
3. Literature review of academic articles – part 1 (80 hours)
4. Literature review of academic articles – part 2 (80 hours)
5. Assisting with collecting primary data (e.g., interviews) and transcribing of data (80 hours)
6. Assisting with data analysis and recommendations (80 hours)
The student will work under the guidance of Dr. Albena Pergelova.
